Press Release

No New Planet Energy

Greg Julian 845 942-2199

On Friday afternoon, April 27, 2018 New Planet Energy, LLC formerly withdrew its application to build a garbage to gasification complex in the Town of Stony Point. Their plan was to begin building a 500,000 sq. foot garbage receiving station on the toxic waste site known as the Kay-Fries on Holt Drive, Stony Point. As our research intensified and the public became informed, the unsustainable nature of this plan became known to more people.  We are heartened by the participation of hundreds of people who attended our meetings, talked to their neighbors, posted signs, and spread the word. We thank the government officials, environment and social justice groups, many organizations, and citizens that joined in this campaign insuring that sustainable development will be the future of Stony Point and Rockland County.  We will be meeting Tuesday, May 1, at 7:00 PM at the West Haverstraw Community Center to discuss where we go from here. We will also be participating in the Rockland County Environmental Committee meeting on Thursday, May 3, at 7:30 PM. We demonstrated what non-partisan citizen democracy looks like. Let’s keep up the momentum to insure a sustainable future for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.
